the gypsies wash their franchise hands
their wives are wrapped in scarves
their children hand out happy meals
through windows in the dark

we head out on the old shrimp boat
come back with haunted eyes
the sea shall still obey the moon

now ever since the spill it’s been a poor vacation town
finger in the fire
shrimp is on the grill but there’s a body in the lounge
frozen jambalaya

sweet chlorine pneumonia
has hit the motel strip
the chambermaids of yesteryear
have gathered on the bridge

i ride my horse around the pool
where swimsuit mourners cry
on their spring break bohemia
